As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic business sector, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska (CCRS) has successfully developed a new service – the ESG Academy. This service was created as a key component of the project “Digitally Sustainable Green Transition of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Republic of Srpska – DiGreenSMEs”, implemented through the EU Initiative for Private Sector Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with financial support from the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Responding to the Demands of the Modern Market
Recognising that sustainable business practices and reporting on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards are becoming essential prerequisites for accessing international markets and financing opportunities, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska has incorporated the ESG Academy into its portfolio as a comprehensive support service for businesses.
World-Class Expertise Supporting Domestic Enterprises
The ESG Academy was delivered by experts from the renowned consulting firm KPMG, providing participants with a free educational programme covering the latest methodologies and regulatory requirements. Through four intensive modules, company representatives gained a comprehensive understanding of the complex EU regulatory framework, resource management and decarbonisation (E), social responsibility (S), and the establishment of ethical governance principles (G).
Key Results and Value for Businesses
ESG helps small and medium-sized enterprises become more competitive, attract investors, access new markets, and meet the expectations of business partners and customers. Upon completion of this programme, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska introduced a valuable new service to the market, enabling participating companies to achieve the following:
- Readiness for ESG Reporting: Companies are equipped to collect and analyse the data required for sustainability reporting in line with the expectations of international business partners and financial institutions.
- Compliance with EU Regulations: Participants gained an in-depth understanding of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other relevant EU regulations that directly affect the export competitiveness of domestic enterprises.
- Enhanced Competitiveness: Applying ESG principles enables companies to optimise resource use, reduce operating costs, and strengthen their reputation as responsible employers.
The ESG Academy is not merely a completed project but a permanent service integrated into the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska and the DIH Idemo network. It will continue to serve as a centre of knowledge and expertise for small and medium-sized enterprises across the Republic of Srpska.
Through this initiative, the Chamber reaffirms its role as a leading partner in the digital and green transformation of the economy. As a member of the DIH Idemo network, it further strengthens the portfolio of services offered by the Digital Innovation Hub, supporting businesses in their transition towards sustainable and digital growth.
Through DIH Idemo, the ESG Academy is connected to a broader innovation ecosystem and a wide range of digital solutions, enabling enterprises to gain easier access to knowledge, technologies, and expert support needed to comply with EU requirements and advance the green transition.
