Smarter Maintenance through Collaboration: Networking and Advanced Concepts Highlighted in the Third Workshop

March 20, 2026

The third and final workshop dedicated to the maintenance of industrial facilities was held, this time focusing on networking and advanced concepts that can contribute to more efficient, reliable, and modern maintenance in industry. The workshop brought together around 20 participants both in person and online.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dejan Branković from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Banja Luka, who spoke about the need for networked collaboration in industrial system maintenance, the role of key actors within that network, and the benefits of connecting industry, academia, equipment manufacturers, service companies, and other stakeholders. The presentation emphasized that modern maintenance increasingly involves data sharing, common standards, the development of predictive maintenance, and the use of digital platforms, including CMMS systems, IoT solutions, data analytics, and digital twin models.

The discussion also addressed practical collaboration between different entities involved in maintenance processes. Key benefits of networking highlighted included faster fault diagnostics, development of skilled personnel, reduced maintenance costs, less production downtime, and increased productivity. The concept of predictive maintenance as a future direction for industrial systems was also a central focus.

The third workshop concluded the cycle of three events organized within the DESET project, covering various topics important for improving maintenance of industrial facilities and equipment in manufacturing SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The workshop was organized by Eda – Enterprise Development Agency within the DESET project – Digitally Enabled Sustainable Energy Transition of manufacturing SMEs, with the financial support of the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ), under the EU Private Sector Development initiative.

The DESET project is implemented by DIH IDEMO, consisting of Eda – Enterprise Development Agency as the lead project partner, together with partners – Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Banja Luka, Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska, Innovation Center Banja Luka, and Development Agency of Republika Srpska.
